Rootfire Garnet Tree of Life Suncatcher

Some trees reach for the sun. This one carries its own embers.
I shaped reclaimed copper into a deeply rooted Tree of Life, surrounded by a handwoven circular frame. Garnet chips gather among its branches like dark red fruit—or sparks still glowing after dusk—while exposed roots reach into the copper boundary below.
The Tree of Life is an ancient symbol of connection: roots anchored in the Earth, branches reaching toward possibility, and a living trunk joining the two. Garnet adds its traditional associations with devotion, courage, protection and grounded strength.
Together, they make Rootfire—a small guardian for remembering where you came from, what steadies you and how much growing you still have ahead of you.
Hang it in a sunny window, above an altar, near a doorway or anywhere that could use a little old-tree magic. When the light reaches the garnet, its nearly black beads reveal flashes of deep wine red.
The copper circle measures approximately 3 inches (7.6 cm) in diameter, not including the leather hanging loop.
One piece. One story. One keeper.
This is a one-of-a-kind Mother of Metal creation. Once it finds its home, this exact piece will not be recreated.

Garnet is traditionally associated with grounded strength, devotion, courage and protective energy. Its deep red presence feels like a banked ember—steady, enduring and ready when needed.
MoM Notes
MoM Notes
Place Rootfire near a window where natural light can reveal the garnet’s hidden wine-red glow. It is designed for indoor display; prolonged exposure to moisture or outdoor weather may alter the copper and leather.
I protected the hand-applied patina with Renaissance Wax, a microcrystalline wax developed for museum conservation in London. I choose it because it provides the least obtrusive protection while allowing copper to remain copper. The wax will gradually wear away, and the metal will continue developing its own living finish.
Natural variations in the garnet and handmade wirework belong to the story of this one-of-a-kind piece.

Why Coppper?
Copper, the metal of the magician, is believed to amplify the energy of the stones it accompanies while supporting grounding, connection, and energy flow. In my work, the heavier gauges of copper are often reclaimed from castaway wiring, giving new life to old materials and supporting my eco-friendly mission: Jewellery with a RE-purpose!
