Within this substantial smoky quartz are natural veils and inclusions filled with elusive rainbow flashes. They appear when the stone meets the light at just the right angle—and then promptly vanish whenever a camera comes snooping. The photographs reveal its smoky depths, but those hidden spectrums are reserved for its keeper.

I wrapped the polished stone in patinated copper, using clean structural lines on both faces and a tightly woven bail crowned with a spiral. Because the pendant is fully reversible, either side can face outward. One feels shield-like and grounded; the other reveals a slightly different pathway through the stone.

Smoky quartz is traditionally associated with grounding, protection and transforming heavy energy into something more useful. Its hidden rainbows bring another layer to the story: light does not disappear inside the shadow—it simply waits for the right angle to reveal itself.

Stone Energy

Smoky quartz is traditionally associated with grounding, protection and transformation. It encourages steady footing during periods of change and symbolizes the ability to move through shadow without becoming lost inside it.
The internal rainbows add an energy of hope and integration—a reminder that darkness and light are not opposites so much as different parts of the same story.

MoM Notes

The rainbow inclusions are genuinely present—and spectacularly uncooperative in photographs. They are best seen by slowly turning the pendant beneath direct or angled natural light. Their appearance changes with the viewing angle, making each flash feel like a small private discovery.
These natural internal veils and inclusions are part of the quartz’s formation and character. They are not surface damage.
I protected the hand-applied patina with Renaissance Wax, a microcrystalline wax developed for museum conservation in London. I choose it because it offers the least obtrusive protection while allowing copper to remain copper. The wax will gradually wear away, and the metal will continue developing its own living finish.

Why Copper?

Copper is the great conductor and the metal of the magician. It amplifies the energies of the stones it accompanies. It is excellent for channelling and grounding and, thus, is considered the conduit between heaven and earth. Copper has long been used to aid tissue repair, blood support, and increase vitality. The larger gauges of copper used in my pieces have been reclaimed from castaway wiring, supporting my eco-friendly mission: "Jewelry with a re-purpose!".
